Course Overview

This course equips MSMEs owners, finance officers, accountants, and managers with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to achieve and sustain tax compliance. It focuses on the practical application of Kenyan tax laws including e-TIMS, VAT, PAYE, Withholding Taxes, Income Tax, Turnover Tax, Rental Income Tax, and Digital Service Tax (where applicable).

Participants will gain hands-on experience in registration, record-keeping, computation, filing, payments, reconciliations, and audit preparedness. The training also covers strategies for minimizing tax risk, avoiding penalties, and integrating tax compliance into overall business governance and financial management for MSMEs.

Module 1: Introduction to Tax Compliance for SMEs in Kenya

  • Overview of Kenya’s tax system and the role of Kenya Revenue Authority
  • Categories of MSME taxpayers in Kenya
  • Types of taxes applicable to SMEs: Income Tax (corporate & individual), Turnover Tax (TOT), Presumptive Tax, VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, Monthly Rental Income (MRI) tax, Digital Service Tax (where applicable)
  • Importance of tax compliance for business sustainability
  • Tax incentives and reliefs available for MSMEs
  • Practical: Mapping your business tax obligations

Module 2: Tax Registration, e-TIMS & Record-Keeping

  • Registration on iTax (KRA) and tax obligations activation
  • Understanding and implementing e-TIMS
  • Issuing compliant tax invoices using e-TIMS
  • Record-keeping requirements: Sales records, Purchase records, Payroll records, Expense documentation
  • Internal controls over tax records

ii. The client shall communicate the preferred training venue at least seven (7) days before the training date. Otherwise the training shall take place in Nairobi.

 iii. This training is delivered by our seasoned trainers who have vast experience as expert professionals in the respective fields of practice. It is taught through a mix of practical activities, theory, group works and case studies.

 iii. Training manuals and additional reference materials are provided to the participants.

 iv. Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with Arichum Consulting certificate.

 v.   The onsite training fee covers tuition fees, training materials, tea at 10am, lunch, tea at 4pm, training venue and a certificate on completion. Accommodation and travel may be arranged for our participants upon request.
